Symptoms are usually easier to see than causes.
You notice the anxiety.
The anger.
The people-pleasing.
The avoidance.
The repeated relationship problem.
The exhaustion.
And naturally, you want the symptom to stop.
But sometimes focusing exclusively on the visible problem keeps us from understanding what is producing it.
There may be fear underneath the control.
Rejection underneath the need for approval.
Insecurity underneath the comparison.
Unhealed hurt underneath the defensiveness.
A false belief underneath a repeated choice.
Looking beneath the surface doesn't mean endlessly analyzing yourself.
It means becoming willing to ask God to show you whether the visible struggle is pointing toward something deeper.
What is driving this?
What am I believing when this happens?
What am I afraid of?
What does God's Word say is true?
The goal isn't merely to manage symptoms more effectively.
We want God to transform what is producing them.
That requires honesty, patience, and a willingness to look beyond what is immediately visible.
Truth To Carry Forward:
Don't stop at the symptom. Ask God to help you understand what may be happening underneath it.
