Control can feel like safety.
If you can anticipate what will happen, prepare for every possibility, and keep everything within reach, maybe nothing can surprise you.
Maybe nothing can hurt you.
That sense of security can make self-reliance incredibly difficult to surrender.
But control and security are not the same thing.
Control depends on your ability to manage circumstances. Biblical security rests in the character of God regardless of circumstances.
One says, “I'll be okay because I have everything handled.”
The other says, “I'll be okay because God is faithful.”
That is a very different foundation.
Surrender asks us to move our confidence from ourselves to God. Not because preparation, wisdom, or responsibility are wrong, but because none of them were designed to become our source of security.
You don't need to stop being responsible.
You need to recognize when responsibility has crossed the line into dependence on yourself instead of dependence on God.
Ask Him to show you where you're looking to control for the security only He can provide.
Truth To Carry Forward:
Real security isn't found in having everything under control. It's found in knowing who holds you when it isn't.
